In Looe - We Love ...
PUBS IN TOWN
Fishermans Arms - the fish - our favourite, your local , undoubtedly one of the best pubs in Looe and just at the bottom of Tower Hill (take left fork as you walk down the hill), 2 min 45 seconds walk. Out of season - full of locals, usually something going on from Live Music, a quiz night or last time we were in - bingo.
The Jolly Sailor - West Looe - Established in 1516, this is the oldest pub in Looe and one of the oldest pubs in the UK. Worth a trip across the river, full of locals.
QUICK EATS / CAFE
Sarah’s Pasty Shop - there is a queue, and it's for a reason - best pasties in town. You will walk past at least one pasty shop to get there and it really is worth it.
Hannafore Kiosk - Outdoor seating overlooking the beach and Looe Island. An absolute favourite for a treat after a short walk through town. At the end of the walk from Polperro on the coast path - or fortification at the start if you go East to West. Their website has a camera so you can check out how busy they are.
RESTAURAUNTS
Fish Market Restaurant - 07832 323233 - in our opinion - the best restaurant in Looe, you will be lucky to get a booking at short notice. There is the opportunity to book online and you might find last minute cancellations. Small intimate and hilariously good service.
Sardine Factory - 01503 770262 - Great for sunday lunch with a chef that has been successful on BBC masterchef. The Heritage Centre below showcases the maritime and fishing heritage of Looe. The building, renovated by Looe Harbour Commission opened in 2018, and also includes a Climbing Wall
There are many other restaurants in Looe, with each year new ones opening. Just because we have not listed it here does not mean its no good, just we may have only been once. In the winter months - January and early February, it can be sketchy as holidays are taken by staff and opeing times can be erratic
TO DO
Fishing off the Banjo - Winter Months Only - otherwise book a fishing trip or outing on the Glass Bottomed boats.
Swim in the sea, relax on the beach. Yes we swim all year round and there is usually a crowd wild water swimming in the morning. Custom House is four minutes from the beach down a flight of stairs
Walk to Polperro and back - or alternatively - catch the bus to Polperro and walk back. Busses depart approx every half hour from the fire station in West Looe or the bridge bus stop. Just search online for current timetable.
The walk to Fowey is more demanding and definately needs transport back as its a full days walk.
Alternatively turn left out of the house and you are on the South West Coast Path to Plaidy and then Millendreath where there is a cafe. Easy walking - don't be tempted to go to Plaidy via the beach at low tide - it's a very rocky walk and the tide can cut you off.
Looe Tennis Club - Hannafore, probable the top view from any tennis club in the UK . Welcomes visitors and with such a low membership fee - it's worth joining even for a week.
Chill out on your own south-facing balcony and enjoy the sea and town views. Binoculars available for watching the fishing boats leaving the harbour. The lounge is a sun trap in summer, need the doors open and sit on the balcony to keep cool.
Check out Looe Live Webcams Here - the view from our house is pretty good - but not as good as the webcams looking back at our house from West Looe
LOOE Lobster
The Looe fishing boats work hard for their catch and local fish are for sale at Pengellys Fish Shop
Personally - fresh Lobster - Add to salted boiling water, bring back to the boil, and cook for a further four minutes. Garlic butter - enjoy
